02/07/2011

Hola family. This week was very interesting. We first started our week off by having to move to another area. We also had to move stuff out of old missionaries apartments because they were no longer able to be used. I hurt my back a little bit, but not too bad. So it's all good. My P- day is Monday, just FYI. We had a conference the next day with our Misssion President and all the other areas close to mine. I saw my old companion again and we had like an 8 hour conference, and still need to finish 5 more points this week. Then the next day we moved in to our new house. It's way big for just 4 missionaries. The other two living there are both natives and they're very nice. Later that night I got pretty sick, and was still sick in the morning. My companion called the Mission President's wife and she got me some medicine. It took about 2 days to get better. I'm doing a lot better now, and I finally got back to working in the field. It rained pretty good this week and made it a lot cooler, thank goodness! My companion says that in May and June it gets cold, so I will see if it's cold for me. He is from Equador, so he gets cold a lot easier. The new area I'm in is pretty cool. The ward is very good and people are willing to talk. We are working hard to get some good progressing investigators. It's pretty hard to understand what they are saying a lot of the time, so I need to have a lot of patience and work harder. It's coming, but slowly. This is definitely hard work, but I know it will pay off. President Calderon came to our ward this Sunday. It was very shocking when we walked in and he was sitting on the stand. We had a testimony meeting, and I bore my testimony. It felt really good. We then went with the President to a couple houses to talk with investigators. He is a very good teacher and missionary. Our house is big! There are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen and big living room area downstairs. Upstairs there is room for studying for the other missionaries, but we study downstairs in a room. The showers have heaters so they are pretty nice, and we sleep on beds that are pretty decent. I am very blessed with these living arrangements right now. I'll send the media card home when I get the other one back. I love you tons and cant wait to write you next week. I loved your emails and you guys mean the world to me! Love, Elder Christoffersen

Camron's first letter from Bolivia

Hola Family! So I didn"t even get to my area until Thursday, but I'm now doing real missionary work. It is very beautiful here and very humid. There are a lot of trees. My first area is La Guardia. It is like an hour south of Santa Cruz . But what is sad is that we have only had like 4 days in this beautiful area! My companion and I are changing our area. We even had good investigators and an awesome ward, so this stinks a ton. But we will be OK even though my comp says the new area is not as pretty. My companion is a native from Columbia. He's a very good missionary and has only a month left on his mission, so he knows what he is doing. He's also a good teacher. He's way funny when I ask him a question and he is in a good mood. If I ask a question correctly, he says "yes my lord" in English. It sounds way funny. Also, one time we were talking to this older guy and when the guy was talking, my companion said in English "he is crazy." It's funny because he knows only a tiny bit of English, but no one else can understand what he is saying.By the way, tell Dan that the food here is fantastic in Santa Cruz! We've eaten some good stuff! I was way surprised! It's probably because the food doesn't have any preservatives in it. But they have soy milk and that is not very good. It has a different flavor to it so I'll live. People here are truly a lot nicer.I know the field here is white already to harvest. It's pretty crazy because we've taught some cool people. We taught a couple who are having a hard time with the getting married thing, but they were truly interested in learning the gospel. Also yesterday we taught this new couple and helped them unload a truck at thier new house. They listened to us, and my comp brought up the law of chastity. It was very interesting, but they took it well. We gave this lady a blessing last night and I gave the first part, but my companion had to write it down for me. I just barely got off a bus with way more people than should fit on a bus! I had to stand and the whole time my shoulders were touching the ceiling with my head bent. It's pretty crazy. But I have even been whistled at by girls! One funny story was that when I was walking down the street, these girls in a car said "oh Guapo (handsome)" but I didnt hear them and when I looked over and saw them looking at me, I smiled and waved. This was right after they said it, so my companion lost it and started laughing and wouldn't tell me what happened for like three minutes! When he told me what they said, I thought it was pretty funny. I gave a talk in church Sunday and its the first talk where I wasn't too nervous. It was great, and I felt the spirit way strong! The power of the Holy Ghost is awesome. I still have a lot of trouble understanding what the people are talking about, but it's starting to come a lot faster. The Lord truly loves these people. I know that he does. They are very humble people here and most of them aren't mean but are open and are willing to talk. We saw a baptism in the ward and were privileged to teach a boy and his family. It was very neat. Just FYI , 7 bolivianos is a dollar and a regular soda is like .50 cents. A dollar seems to go pretty far. I wish you a ton and I am thankful for the Holy Ghost and the Lord's hand in my life. I am very happy for this oppurtunity to serve here, but the letters take forever to arrive. So emails are probably easier but I only have 45 minutes to write. Have an aweome time. I miss you tons! Love, Elder Christoffersen

Chicago Airport

Cassi surprised Camron by being at the Chicago airport when he got off the plane. She was able to spend 5 hours with him before he took off to Miami and then to Bolivia.
